FID
An FID typically uses a Hydrogen/Air flame into which the sample is passed to oxidise organic molecules and produces electrically charged particles (ions). The ions are collected and produce an electrical signal which is then measured.
TCD
The thermal conductivity detector (TCD), also known as a Kat harometer, is a bulk property detector and a chemical specific detector commonly used in gas chromatography. This detector changes in the thermal conductivity of the column effluent and compare sit to a reference flow of carrier gas.
