High-Performance Liquid Chromatography with Ultraviolet Detection (HPLC-UV) provides a precise and sensitive technique for determining formaldehyde in air samples. Airborne formaldehyde is first collected by drawing air through an absorbent solution—commonly containing 2,4-dinitrophenylhydrazine (DNPH)—which reacts with formaldehyde to form a stable hydrazone derivative.
